Description


(World Coins from Various Properties Germany, Merovingian, gold Tremissis, c. 620, Cologne, Rauchomaros, diademed bust right, colonia fit, rev. long Latin cross on globe, ravchomaros mo, 1.41g/6h (EMC 2018.0249; cf. Belfort 1606; cf. Prou 1170). Well struck, legible and of superior style, very fine or better, an important coin and excessively rare £2,000-£3,000 --- Provenance: Found near Horncastle (Lincolnshire). Probably the second known specimen. The only other recorded example is a grave find from Cologne, unearthed during excavations in 1950 and currently in the Römisch-Germanisches Museum in Cologne.
